Root Chakra: Signs Of A Blocked Root Chakra and 4 Ways To Heal It

Chakras are energy centers located throughout our bodies. Today, we will focus on the root chakra, which sits at the base of the spine, covering the first three vertebrae and the pelvic floor. You’ll learn 4 root chakra healing techniques and common signs of an out of balance root chakra.

The root chakra is our foundational energy center. It regulates the feelings of survival, safety and stability.

Associated with the color red, a balanced root chakra makes us feel grounded, safe, and confident. It allows us to fearlessly tackle life challenges.

However, an imbalanced root chakra can invoke feelings of fear, anxiety, insecurity and vulnerability. Luckily, you can recognize your own imbalance and incorporate powerful root chakra healing methods to bring stability and positivity into your life.

Signs Of Blocked Root Chakra

A blocked root chakra can influence your whole system, making you feel insecure and threatened by your surroundings.

To understand if you need root chakra healing, become aware of your feelings, thoughts, and body. Try to be fully honest with yourself and look for these common signs of a blocked root chakra:

  • Your anxiety has increased
  • You feel unsafe and insecure
  • You have trouble trusting others
  • You have catastrophic thoughts about money and home
  • You struggle when making decisions
  • You find it difficult to concentrate
  • You have a bad relationship with food, which manifests either as starving or binge-eating
  • You are hoarding things, your home is cluttered
  • You feel disconnected from nature
  • You lack the confidence to show your true self to others
  • You intensely react to any threat from your surroundings
  • The thought of losing control terrifies you

Physical signs:

  • You gained weight, particularly in the bottom half of your body
  • Your hands and feet are unusually cold

If you recognize yourself in many of these symptoms, it’s likely that your root chakra is misaligned. It is also possible that you don’t entirely understand why that happened. But remember – anything that impacts your security – such as a breakup, losing a job, having financial or family struggles, can block your root chakra.

How To Balance Your Root Chakra?

There are many methods you can use for root chakra healing. Here we listed four most common and efficient ways you can align it on your own, to revive your confidence and stability.

1. Meditation

There are two common meditation methods you can do to realign on your root chakra.

The first is a classic chakra meditation where you focus on one area of your body and visualize its color. In this case, red. If you are curious to see if this meditation helps you, here is how to do it:

  • Sit in a comfortable position, with your spine straight.
  • Close your eyes and first start tuning into your body by inhaling and exhaling deeply.
  • Feel the deep connection of your pelvis and the floor, which gives you a sense of stability and grounding
  • As you continue breathing, focus on the location of the root chakra, and first notice if you can physically feel any tightness or discomfort.
  • Breathe into your root chakra and imagine a red glowing globe at its point. This visualization helps you to connect with the chakra, cleanse, and finally, balance it.
  • Sit in the meditation for a couple of minutes.
  • As you start repeating this meditation daily, you will gain increased awareness of the area, making it relaxed and helping it to heal.

The second thing you can do, that doesn’t necessarily exclude the first technique, is using mantras.

The sound LAM is considered the “seed mantra” for the root chakra, as it matches its vibration. Repeat the sound slowly and consciously, while you’re seating in your meditation. If you feel fear or insecurity throughout the day, you can also try to repeat LAM in your thoughts to return to a calmer and more grounded state of mind.

If you have a hard time meditating and are overthinking, you can try to play binaural beats in the 396 Hz frequency, which are believed to liberate your energy and help you release your fears.

2. Root Chakra Healing Affirmations

Affirmations are a powerful method of root chakra healing. They help you set an intention for rebuilding your thought processes and behaviors.  Use them to start associating with safety and stability.

Here are some example affirmations you can repeat, that help in root chakra opening:

  • Wherever I am, I am safe.
  • The universe always supports me.
  • I have a healthy mind and body.
  • I love myself.
  • My home is safe.
  • I’m financially stable.
  • I’m relaxed, stable, and grounded.

Many people use affirmations daily before sleep to calm their minds and facilitate a sense of content and peace. The root chakra healing affirmations are focused on your safety, but also help you to connect to the world and your own unique place in the universe. Try to incorporate them into your everyday life, before sleep or just when you wake up.

3. Physical Activity

Physical activity is strongly associated with root chakra healing. Root chakra plays an important role in our physicality and body awareness. Though the chakra itself is wide and considered rigid and unchangeable, you can still increase the flow of energy through the area with exercise.

Types of activities that help most with this chakra are those which build a strong connection to the earth. Good examples are dance and yoga, or any other movement that needs stability and strength in your feet and legs.

Yoga could be particularly helpful in restoring the energy of your root chakra, as the whole practice is designed around the effort to connect our spiritual and physical body. The most helpful poses for releasing tension in root chakra are standing asanas like Tree pose, Warrior, Goddess, and Mountain which help you ground your feet and feel a connection with the earth. Just as powerful are poses that connect your pelvis to the ground and invoke a feeling of comfort and safety,  such as the Child’s pose.

4. Root Chakra Crystals

Using crystals is a common method for chakra opening. The vibrational frequencies of the stones can help restore a lack of energy, or balance the overactive root chakra.

Each stone has its frequency and is unique, and those associated with root chakra are usually, but not exclusively, red or similar shades of the color.

It’s normal to be suspicious or skeptical when finding and using the stone, especially if you haven’t encountered this practice before. Give it a try, and see how you feel and if it helps you.

Although each individual is unique, here are some popular stones and crystals that represent the root chakra, and are believed to help realign and unblock it:

Red Jasper

Red Jasper is known as the stone of physical strength and energy, balance and endurance, and is often called the “supreme nurturer”.

It is particularly helpful when you’re struggling with mood swings or going through a big change in your life. It helps you feel stable and confident when tackling life challenges, while also ensuring you stay rooted and connected with the earth and your true self.

Bloodstone

Bloodstone is used to balance your complete body and realign the root chakra with the heart. It’s a powerful cleanser that represents strength, confidence, and fearlessness.

It is useful when you need to combat negative emotions and situations, as it helps you to ground the negative energy. It builds resilience and helps you to recognize love and benefits in difficult periods and situations.

Red Carnelian

Carnelian is a stabilizing stone, associated with bravery. It’s a fantastic choice if fears are your biggest obstacle and if you struggle to get out of your comfort zone.

If you lack motivation and willpower, the carnelian can help as well, as it boosts passion and self-confidence.

Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz neutralizes negative emotions and is incredibly powerful for those dealing with anxiety and depression.

Along with combating and transforming negative vibrations, this stone also releases emotional blockage. It will help you to feel less anger, mistrust, and anxiety, teach you acceptance and letting go of anything that doesn’t serve you.

We actually have a smokey quartz bracelet available in our Etsy Shop!

Obsidian

Obsidian is a protective stone that shields you from negativity.

If you are drawn to this stone, you likely need a deep cleansing, as this stone helps to dissolve pent-up emotions and old traumas. It can protect you from addiction, anger, fear, and anxiety.

The stone doesn’t block emotions, it rather brings out the truth and assists you in dealing with it with compassion and strength. After you address the inner struggles, your root chakra will strengthen, you will feel control of your own life and destiny.
